Prof.
J. D. Agarwal , Director, Institute of Finance
has welcomed the decision of the Government to introduce one
single management test for admission to management courses
in the country.Acroding to Prof. Agarwal ,this will save the
aspiring candidates form the harassment and also incur to
seek admissions in an institute they desire. Ordinarily ,
an aspiring candidate or his parents end up spending more
then Rs.20,000/- for purchasing prospectuses and also appearing
for different admission tests conducted by multiple agencies
to pursue their mission of seeking admission in a management
course. This will help more than one lank aspiring candidates
form the harassment and aslo save them lot of money\, which
they currently to spend.
A single
test for admission to management institutes would also automatically
categorise various institutes in terms of their rankin as
perceived by the aspiring candidates adn their parents. A
number of agencies, organisations adn magazines are conducting
surveys for ranking various management intentious.Such surveys
influence the perceptions of aspiring candidates. Despite
the best efforts, the objectiveity and good intentions by
such agecies racking suffer from number of weaknesses.Ordinarily,
Prof. Agarwal feels that not more then 25% institutes fill
up the questionnaire and send the details .The newspaper reports
indicate that some of the institutes even fuzz figures in
order to get better ranking. Thirdly, the parameters which
are considered for raking over focus on members related to
number of faculty member and not on quality of faculty, the
number of room and the infrastructure and not the quality
of the education or research produced by and institute. The
amount of salaries paid to the out-going students in terms
of placemetn offers and not the type of placement offered
or the type of quality of placement offered to the candidates.
The surveys tend in favour of old Govt. oriented institution
even if they are not so efficient in terms of productivity,
efficent utilisation of societies financial and other resources
available at their command .Researh content and policies prescriptions
or international linkages of the institutions in today's context,
its competitivencess adn efficiency of the management institutes
in terms of using various resources available at its disposal
should be focus of any surveys rather then a candidate quantity
of variousparameters.
It has
also been observed that some of the institutes in order to
fill in the vacancies for admissions even admit students violating
all norms of admissions. In certaion cases, Dr. Agarwal feels
, some of those candidates who have not yet completed graduation
or have faild to complete graduation , have been found to
be puursuing their postgraduate programmes, which is unfortunate.
The Govt's stance will help remove such anomalies.
Dr. Agarwal,
Reiterates that Govt's.decision to introduce single test will
do away many of the ills which are currently prevailing in
management education adn create a level of confidence among
the prospective employers.
Prof.
Agarwal feels that IIMs, Which are institutions created with
public funds sould provide a lead together with AICTE to remove
the ills which are prevailing in management education in the
country today. They should also agree to the Govt's. stance
in this respect so that industry and institutions around the
globe mayhave grather have greather confidence and appreciations
for the candidates being piked up after they have pursued
their management programmes.
