Observations on Railway Budget by Prof. J.D. Agarwal

Dr. J.D.Agarwal, Chairmain & Director, Indian Institute of Finance has welcomed the Raiway Budget

According to him, the focus on better services and crack down on ticketless travel are welcome features of the budget. The increase in the fare of A/C & Ist Class and trade are moderate. The Railway Minister should have considered increasing the IInd class railway fair moderately from 3% to 5% which have been left untouched year after year on the ground of social justice and be heavily subsidised.

Additional revenue so generated from such IInd class fares could have been used to provide more trains, better services and upgradation of tehonology. Dr.Agrawal also welcomed the concessions granted to the handicapped people, recipients of President Medals and Accredited Journalist.

Railway Minister could have used more innovative sources of generation more revenue for upgradation of techonology and match the current demand with supply of the railway services.
