Budget for all walks of life

NEW DELHI, March 14- The Government would be able to attain a target of single unit digit inflation of eight to nine percent and a growth rate of four percent says Prof. J D Agarwal an eminent economist and director of the Indian Institute of Finance.

Speaking at panel discussion organised by the Institute of Economic Studies at the India International Centre here on Saturday Mr. Agarwal opined that the present budget is intended to help people from all walk of life.

He said that the budget was embedded with many good and positive features but it has certain implications also.

According to Dr. Agarwal this is a meaningful simplification and rationalisation of personal tax reliefs but the Government may not be able to sustain this proposal and would restore some of the relief's in due course.

Other panelist in the discussion were Mr. Somnath Chatterjee of CPI (M), Jaipal Reddy of Janta Dal, Mr. R.N. Lakhotia Tax Consutant and Mr. V.N. Sharma Retired General of Army.
