Mrs. S. Chona, principal of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, was among 10 persons to receive awards from Institute of Economic Studies (IES) here today.

    The awards were for excellence in education and in industries and exports. The IES is a nonprofit group engaged in promoting awareness and research, and has industrialists, parliamentarians and economists as members.

     Mr. P. V. Ranga Rao, minister for primary and secondary education in Andhra Pradesh, also received the Shiksha Rattan award, as did Prof. J.D Agarwal, director of the Indian Institute of Finance.

    UDYOG RATTAN : In the industries category, Mr. Prabhas Mishra of Indian Boilers Limited and Mr. Bharat Bhushan of Jindal Steel Company got the Udyog Rattan award.

    Mr. Mani Lal Mulji, Mr. R. Palisamy, Mr Shaukat Ali and Ms Aruna Kulkarni received the Niryat Rattan award while the Gold Star award went to Hotel Ashok.

     Mrs. Chona was given the award for efforts to uplift weaker sections of society and the handicapped.
